Our unisex 60cm sterling silver 'Atu or woven basket necklace features a stunning 12mm Tahitian black pearl.
'Atu meaning basket, in Samoan is a term given to woven baskets. These baskets were traditionally woven from coconut palm fronds and were a big part of every day life. As times changed, palm fronds were often swapped for convenient plastic baskets and the weaving culture and art form dwindled. Today we realise the importance of keeping these traditions alive and for choosing renewable resources rather than those which break down and polute our oceans.
Not only does the woven pattern represent 'atu, it represents strength in unity. Multiple fronds woven together, give far more strength and support and those alone.
This design is caste in sterling silver. The island flower motif on the bail is known throughout the Pacific. The woven 'atu setting represents unity, through village, community and of course family.
Finally,'YOU' are represented by the beautiful, one-of-a-kind Tahitian black pearl.
DCJ engraved on the reverse is the makers stamp.
