Kohikohi Village seek to revive old traditions including maori games and resources with handmade Ti Rakau and Mau Rakau.
Reviving old games such as Ti Rakau and Mau Rakau involves my whole whanau. Traditionally, tanekaha was used for Rakau and natural resources such as feathers and dyes for embellishment.
I source dowelling from local hardware stores and love to use non-toxic paints, stains and resins to present colourful eye-catching pieces. All Mau Rakau are adorned with a feather.
I create pieces for tamariki and those young at heart. I love that adults are also drawn to my pieces and enjoy reminicising about their childhood and playing with rakau whether it be ti rakau, mau rakau or titi torea.
Your never too old to enjoy Rakau.
